Steelers purchase North Side land for entertainment venue
The Steelers have completed the purchase of a four-acre riverfront parcel on the North Shore that is expected to be the site of a year-round $10 million entertainment venue.
The team closed last week on the purchase of the land from the city Stadium Authority for $1.37 million. The deal proved to be controversial when approved by the authority board in August, with some, including board Chairwoman Debbie Lestitian, complaining that the sale price was far too low for prime riverfront property.
"We are pleased that we were able to close on the purchase of the property for the entertainment center. We are looking forward to moving ahead with the final planning and development phase of the property. The current plan is to have an indoor/outdoor year-round operation, which will be unique to Pittsburgh," Steelers President Art Rooney II said in a statement.
The center is expected to have seating for 5,000 people outdoors and 2,000 indoors
