Police today arrested four protesters who were blocking a main entrance to the North Shore's Del Monte building.

The protest, organized by Northside United, attracted about 30 people who hoped to pressure Continental Real Estate, a major North Shore developer, to create a benefits agreement for neighboring communities.

"We were being very peaceful. The police knew we were coming," said Rachel Canning, program director for Pittsburgh United, Northside United's parent organization. "They knew what our intent was."

Ms. Canning and several other protesters blocked access to a revolving door in front of the Del Monte building. She and three others -- Angel Gober, Barney Oursler and Paradise Gray -- were arrested when police arrived shortly after 11 a.m.

Police could not immediately be reached for comment.

Ms. Gober, Mr. Oursler and Ms. Canning were given citations for obstructing the building's entrance. Mr. Gray was charged with resisting arrest, although Ms. Canning said Mr. Gray was only trying to stop people entering and exiting the Del Monte building from hurting her and Ms. Gober as they attempted to use the revolving door.

"One guy stepped on me to get back in, and just pushed his way through," Ms. Canning said. "Paradise was arrested for basically just trying to defend me and Angel."
